Our Leader – Judy Warrington

Judy Warrington is a former teacher, retired from teaching in the classroom for over 30 years, but not at all "retired"! Having taught from grades 4 to college level, she's had experience in the classrooms of Peel and Halton Board elementary and secondary schools, Sheridan College, and Appleby College. Judy taught English, French as a Second Language, English as a Second Language, adult commercial re-training programs, and taught grades 4 - college level. Throughout her career, Judy keenly involved her students in experiential education and service locally and internationally. To this day, Judy continues to hear from many students all over the world with whom she's worked over the years.

Judy has always been active in the community, volunteering many hours for such organizations as the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke, University Women's Club, and International Child Care. Recognized by the community she lives in, Judy was nominated for the Athena Award in 2004 and "Woman-of-the-Year" Award in 2005. Judy is an Honorary Member of the Round Square, Honorary Member of the Rotary clubs of Puerto Plata and Moca 2 de Mayo, and Honorary Citizen of the town of Moca, Dominican Republic.

As an active Christian, member and past-president of The Rotary Club of Oakville, mentor to Interact and Rotaract clubs in Oakville, Judy focuses her energies on international service and youth programs. Having experienced the cultures of Eastern Europe, Africa, Central America and the Caribbean, she brings much experience and insight to each and every project she organizes. Many years of experience as the Round Square coordinator of programs for Appleby College in Oakville and Bayview Glen School in Toronto have led Judy to an astute awareness of what makes for good service and meaningful programs for young people today.

Our Staff

Each trip is staffed by unique, talented, experienced teachers and adults from across Canada. Selected by their schools, many teachers participate in a dual role: as chaperone and mentor to a group of 5 to 7 students, and as a keen volunteer personally eager to give up holiday time in order to make a difference in the world.

Our program has been blessed by the leadership of many staff who have joined Judy in key trip admin. positions: coordinator of the school makeovers, coordinator of children's programs, and coordinator of community and student programs. Such staff are selected by Judy and are frequently repeat PowerTrips volunteers.
