Where We Go

We generally fly into the Puerto Plata airport, often accompanied by tourists seeking the turquoise waters, the beautiful sandy beaches, palm trees, and all-inclusive holiday resorts dotting the north coast. But as Go.See.Do. volunteers, we want to see that world and go beyond, go where we can experience much more of the real beauty of this island. We head for the dirt roads that take us in and around the cane fields or outskirts of cities. We go into communities where our Rotary and local friends are keen to introduce us, communities where beautiful children and disadvantaged families often with great needs are ready to welcome us with open arms, communities where a principal, teachers and parents' association are challenged by the condition of their school and are oh-so-ready to work with us. We like to travel the scenic roads to the east and south that take us up and over mountains offering breath-taking panoramas and into welcoming small towns in agricultural areas around Tubagua in the North and around Moca and the city of Santiago further inland.
