Your health, safety and well-being are paramount. All foreseeable precautions are taken to maintain the health and well-being of everyone.

• Group organizers will act in the best interests of all participants.
• A complete and thorough report of all safety and risk-management issues is prepared for each trip and circulated to all volunteers at their first meeting.
• A local doctor is advised of our presence and arrangements are made for a doctor to be on-call should an emergency arise wherever we are working
• Staff have basic first-aid and CPR certification; many have higher certifications and lifeguarding skills.
• Complete doctor-approved medical and first-aid kits (including a steri-aid kit for a doctor's use) travel with the group at all times.
• The Canadian consulates in Puerto Plata and in Santo Domingo are made aware of our itinerary and program.
• If at any time during the project, participants experience personal, emotional, spiritual or social difficulties, people are around to share concerns with. You can expect the staff leaders to be good listeners, and generally experienced travelers.
• Complete health profiles are sought from all volunteers and kept on file.
• Information relating to immunizations recommended and medical issues in the Dominican Republic is shared at the first participants' information meeting
• All the guidelines and expectations of this trip are clearly laid out in the application package. Your signed package will be kept on file during the trip.

Accommodation
Our accommodation can vary from basic, comfortable, dorm-style retreat centres to hotels with all the amenities. Sites are chosen based on the recommendation of our Dominican partners or from our previous experience.

Transportation
We use one reputable bus company and one particular driver who comes on high recommendation from our Dominican partners – a driver who we are proud to have as our friend, our guide, our protector and even a fellow volunteer at our project sites. Our expectations are made clear to our drivers at each encounter and have always been carried out in the past.

In case of emergency, reliable transportation is always available.
